Christmas Spirit Creepin' In

Wow! I can't believe it has been so long since I've posted.  My computer I am afraid is in dear need of being replaced for a new model.  It's hit or miss when I try to use it to actually be able to get a decent Internet connection and actually be able to get pages to pull it. Sometimes I just throw my hands up and say it's not worth it!  Since, I don't think I'm going to find a new one under my tree this year, I'll have to start saving my pennies for a new one for 2009.

I've got the Christmas Spirit bug this year! Something I haven't been able to say for a long time. I've got my Christmas shopping done except for a few small little things (think $5 items or less). I've got a few wrapped and I am enjoying the process of getting out my Christmas goodies and beginning to decorate.  Keaton spent the day with me Friday and we had a ball listening to Christmas music, coloring, wrapping presents, and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Christmas spirit in his eyes. Since I don't have children of my own, it's nice to be able to have him in my life to see these things through a child's eyes.

Thanksgiving was thankfully quite. I made a tasty turkey and we are still eating leftovers. Turkey Divan for supper last night and now I'm wondering where I put that recipe for Turkey Tetrazinni. I did venture out to a couple of stores Friday for the sales, but it was a quick in and quick out. I don't have the stomach anymore for the all day fighting the crowds on Black Friday. Something I noticed missing this year is none of our local radio stations played Christmas music! WTF! It has always been a tradition that the day after Thanksgiving the local stations played Christmas music all day long. It always put everyone in the mood as you went out shopping. I guess apparently that tradition must have grown old, but I missed it.

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving!

A Rainy Sunday

tn_!cid_00a101c8 I decided to make a quick post today as I sat here surfing the net listening to the soft rain hit against my bedroom window. It's been a while since I've posted, a self imposed internet sabbatical being the biggest reason.

I've been in an emotional funk this week. Little things that seem normally roll off me have irritated the hell out of me. I'm burnt out and looking very much forward to some upcoming time-off. I've also started trying to lose weight again. I think that always puts me in a funk at least for a week or two. Maybe it's the decrease in "Sugar Lady's " daily intake or just that I have to face up to the fact I've not been living very healthy. Both are depressing thoughts.

I've been devoring books! My love of reading has been sparked again and I can't wait to start a new book after finishing one. I have a To Be Read Pile that could easily stock a small bookstore, but yet, I still buy more. I've always dreamed of owning a bookstore, maybe one day I'll get that chance and won't feel guilty about buying more books. I'm very lucky, though, that one of my benefits at work is that I can get reimbursed for reading. Our CEO is a strong believer in reading and if I donate the book to our office library (any type of book!), I can turn in my receipt for a full-refund of the cost. Free Reading! Of course, I use that a lot to wash away the guilt of buying another book. Hehe. At least the books are being passed on and I know others get some fun out of reading them.

I'm beginning to see the signs of fall around. Days are getting shorter and even though the days can be wicked hot the skies have that fall look and the nights turn cool.

It can't come soon enough for me. Peace.

It's a Dirty Job

2-stars_n_garters In my ever quest for a solution to a clean house, I picked up a book at the library today called Real Simple: Cleaning. I always say that my house could qualify for a Mike Rowe Experience, but I thought I'd give this book a shot before I called him in.

Disappointedly, it offered no magical solution other than you must still actually clean house....darn it, I knew it would end that way! It basically rehashed solutions that I had heard a hundred times, but a couple I did find interesting.

I've always heard use denture cleaner tablets in the toilet to clean it, but the book suggested Antiacids. I am assuming they meant the Tums kind. Drop two antiacid tablets in the bowl and leave for 20 minutes. Like in your stomach, it will clear away the acid (didn't realize my toilet bowl had a stomach problem) and then you can just swipe and flush it away. Worth a try.

The second idea was to download some tunes to help you get the job done. I'm always up for themed music, so here are their suggestions for a compilation:

Another One Bites the Dust - Queen
Clean - Depeche Mode
Come Clean - Hilary Duff
Drops from the Faucet - Nanci Griffith
In the Bath - Edie Brickell
Into the Groove - Madonna
Scrub a Dub - Eric Hansen
Shine On - Ryan Cabrera
Suds in the Bucket - Sara Evans
Talk Dirty To Me - Poison
The Dirty Boogie - Brian Setzer Orchestra
Tiny Bubbles - Don Ho
Wash, Mama, Wash - Dr. John
Wipe Out - Surfaris

I thought of another one to add to the list ........Nasty Girl - Nitty

My quest continues.

George Carlin 1937-2008

georgecarlin "Due to this country's fear of death, I won't have to die........I'll pass away!"

George Carlin passed away yesterday. The first memories I have of him was as a kid I would sit up late at night (always the night owl) and watch him make his many appearances on The Tonight Show. He had my type of humor. Something that made you think. The everyday things that he brought to life. His routines stuck with you for years after hearing them...and are still funny today!

He was a thinking man's comic. I'm sure most of our comics today learned a thing or two from him. Or, at least if they took a few lessons from the school of Carlin it would be a much more funny world.

I leave you with a wish from George......." May the forces of evil become confused on the way to your house." Rest in peace, George.
